Application Process

The AER accepts over 40 000 energy applications per year. A company must apply for permission and receive approval from the AER prior to commencing oil and gas activity in the province of Alberta.

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Process

Developed in response to the desire of AER stakeholders to be more directly involved in resolving energy-related disputes, ADR is typically used to resolve public-to-company and company-to-company disputes.

Decisions

In accordance with the rules and under Section 33, of the Responsible Energy Development Act, when the AER makes a decision on an application, direct notice is provided to the applicant and any person who filed a statement of concern regarding the application. In addition, the AER posts notices of hearings and publish decisions on its website.
