File a Complaint

A complaint is any notification from a stakeholder regarding an operation, site, or facility under the jurisdiction of the Alberta Energy Regulator that the stakeholder believes is causing, has caused, or may cause an adverse impact to public safety, the environment, or personal property.

To report an energy or environmental complaint, please call the Energy and Environmental 24-hour Response Line at 1-800-222-6514.

When calling, please provide as much detail as possible about the complaint, such as:

  1. Location – Legal land location (if possible) or general location
  2. Description of complaint – Describe the impact or nature of the complaint.
  3. Source of complaint – Are you aware or were you able to determine the source of the complaint? If not, can you describe what type of industrial activity is in the area (i.e., oil and gas, agriculture, manufacturing, etc.)?

NOTE: Do not put yourself in harms way to determine any of the above information. The compliance officers who answer the 24-hour response line will notify the appropriate agency and if the situation warrants, emergency responders will be dispatched.

If you have an inquiry or regulatory question, please contact the Alberta Energy Regulator Customer Contact Centre at 1-855-297-8311 or inquiries@aer.ca.
