The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) will hold a prehearing meeting on applications 1842705, 1851246, and 1851250 at the Clean Energy Technology Centre, 5400 - 24 Avenue, Drayton Valley, Alberta, on March 13, 2017, starting at 9:00 a.m. The prehearing meeting will also be webcast at This webcast will only be available when the prehearing meeting is in progress. It will not be an official record of the proceeding.

What is the purpose of the meeting?
The purpose of the prehearing meeting is to obtain the parties’ views on the following: the issues to be examined; any preliminary matters relating to costs; dates, location, and procedural matters such as initial estimates of the time allotted to each party to present evidence and argument in the hearing; the potential role for alternative dispute resolution; the potential role for a technical meeting; any other matter that may help ensure a fair, efficient, and effective hearing process.

Evidence or argument on the merits of the applications will not be heard.

Description of the Applications
Bashaw Oil Corp. applied under section 2.020 of the Oil and Gas Conservation Rules to drill and operate three proximity-critical sour wells on a multiwell padsite to be located in Legal Subdivision (LSD) 9, Section 35, Township 49, Range 7, West of the 5th Meridian. The wells would be directionally drilled to bottomhole locations at 04-01-050-07W5, 15-35-049-07W5, and 08-34-049-07W5, targeting crude oil in the Nisku formation. The wells would have a maximum hydrogen sulphide (H2S) content of 211.5 moles per kilomole (21.15%), and the cumulative completion/servicing H2S release rate would be 1.15 cubic metres per second with a corresponding emergency planning zone of 0.88 kilometres (km.). The padsite would be about 2.3 km. east of Rocky Rapids.

How can I take part in the meeting?
Counsel and, if hearing participants are not represented by counsel, hearing participant representatives will have the opportunity to make submissions directed to the items identified on the agenda for the prehearing meeting. A written submission is not required. However, if you wish to file a written submission for the prehearing meeting, send one copy to the hearing coordinator, Greg McLean, at the address above and one copy to Bashaw Oil Corp. at the address above before March 7, 2017. The prehearing meeting agenda will be sent to Bashaw Oil Corp. and hearing participants.

Is this a public process?
Yes. Section 49 of the Alberta Energy Regulator Rules of Practice (Rules of Practice) requires that all documents and information filed in a proceeding be placed on the public record. If you file a submission, you must not include any personal information that you do not want on or are not authorized to put on the public record. Section 49(2) of the Rules of Practice states how to apply to the AER for an order to keep information confidential.
