In August of 2013, Jennifer Steber joined the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) as the new Executive Vice President of Stakeholder and Government Engagement. Prior to joining the AER, Ms. Steber had been with the Government of Alberta for nearly a quarter century holding a variety of senior positions, such as Chief Assistant Deputy Minister of Oil Sands and Energy Operations, and Assistant Deputy Minister of Resource Development.
The role of EVP of Stakeholder and Government Relations will be new for the AER and Ms. Steber will be responsible for creating and maintaining positive and cooperative relationships with all of the regulator’s stakeholders in an effort to provide fulsome full life cycle regulation of the energy industry for the benefit of all of Alberta’s citizens.
Ms. Steber’s career with the Alberta Government has spanned across four ministries—Environment; Sustainable Resource Development; Tourism, Parks and Recreation; and Energy. Her extensive executive experience in leading strategic natural-resource-management and regulatory initiatives combined with strong negotiation expertise make her a critical addition to the AER’s leadership team. Ms. Steber’s strong relationships across all levels of government, the energy industry, and with other relevant stakeholders will help the AER achieve its outcomes of active, regular, and meaningful engagement.
Ms. Steber has a Master’s degree from the University of Oregon in Planning and Policy and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Manitoba. She’s also completed courses in leadership development, risk management, and the managing of public conflict. She actively participates on numerous boards and provides leadership on many federal, provincial and cross-ministry initiatives.
