Calgary, Alberta (Jun 12, 2013)… The Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) has received further information regarding the volume of produced water spilled in an incident first reported to the ERCB on June 1, 2013 by Apache Canada Ltd. The incident occurred on a produced water pipeline approximately 20 kilometres southwest of Zama City, Alberta.
Apache has completed its delineation of the affected area and now believes that approximately 9 480 cubic metres of produced water was spilled, affecting an estimated area of 42 hectares.
There were no injuries as a result of the release. All appropriate agencies were notified.
The ERCB is onsite and will continue to work with Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, the company and other agencies to ensure that the incident is controlled, contained, and all appropriate clean up and mitigation measures take place.
The ERCB will be conducting an investigation into the cause of the incident, and will publish a public report once the investigation is complete.
