The Alberta Energy Regulator (the AER) has issued an Abandonment and reclamation Order to MAGA Energy Ltd. (MAGA) requiring the abandonment of MAGA’s wells, facilities and pipelines.
Due to MAGA’s failure to comply with previously issued Orders by the AER in December of 2025 and April of this year, as well as further non-compliances that have arisen since the April order, the AER has determined an abandonment order is necessary to protect the public and the environment.
According to the Order, MAGA must submit a plan to abandon its wells, facilities, and pipelines (the Abandonment Plan) by September 30, 2026, along with a plan for the conservation and reclamation of the lands (the Reclamation Plan) for approval by the AER by October 15, 2026.
Failure to comply with the terms of the order may result in further enforcement action.
