The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is proposing revisions to Directive 011: Estimated Liability to improve liability estimates for individual licences, licensees, as well as the oil and gas industry as a whole. Specifically, cost estimates will be introduced for pipeline abandonment, single-well battery abandonment, and well remediation, while closure cost estimates will be updated for some multiwell battery abandonment and well reclamation.
Liability estimates are used to understand the total estimated liability of the oil and gas sector, which is made up of active and inactive liability. In addition, it is used to determine a licensee’s proportionate share of the closure quota and orphan fund levy, so that closure obligations can be equitably distributed to all licensees.
About the Sessions
These two-hour, online sessions will begin with a 30-minute presentation of the proposed revisions and the methodology used to estimate liability. A moderated question and answer will follow the presentation to provide attendees the opportunity to further clarify the information. Please be aware that the AER will not answer licensee-specific questions during the Q&A portion.
We look forward to seeing you at one, or all, of the sessions.
