Alberta’s Access to Information Act (ATIA) came into effect on June 11, 2025. The legislation provides a modern way for Albertans to access records held by public bodies, such as the Alberta Energy Regulator. ATIA replaces parts of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP).
ATIA is designed to
- promote transparency, accountability, and openness in public bodies and
- balance the public’s right to know with the need to protect confidential and sensitive information.
Submit an Access to Information Request
You may be able to find the information you are looking for without filing a formal access to information (ATI) request by
- searching www.aer.ca for publicly available information,
- viewing the AER’s Products and Services Catalogue,
- exploring the AER’s data and performance reports, or
- contacting inquiries@aer.ca.
If the information you need is not publicly available, submit an ATI request as follows:
- Complete the Access to Information (ATI) form. Include your contact information and details about the information you want to access on the form. Refer to page two of the form for detailed instructions.
- There is a $25 initial search fee for all ATI requests. Payment may be made by cheque (payable to the “Alberta Energy Regulator” or “AER”) or by credit card (Visa or MasterCard only). A team member will contact you directly for credit card payment.
- Send your completed ATI request form, to the AER’s Access to Information team via email to: AER.FOIP@aer.ca or by mail to:
