Regulatory appeal of an Abandonment and Reclamation Order
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) will hold a public hearing for a regulatory appeal of the decision to issue an Abandonment and Reclamation Order to Renergy Petroleum (Canada) Co Ltd. (Renergy) at the AER’s Govier Hall, 250 5th Street SW, Calgary Alberta, starting on May 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The hearing will be videocast at https://www.meetview.com/aer2026/.
Should members of the public choose to observe the hearing in-person they should be aware that they may be captured in the live stream video.
The live stream video of the hearing will not be recorded and will not be available for viewing later. The transcripts are the official record of the hearing and will be posted on the AER’s website.
The AER issued a notice of hearing on September 4, 2025 and an amended notice of hearing on September 17, 2025. All parties must be present to register at the start of the hearing. If the request for the regulatory appeal is withdrawn, the hearing will be cancelled.
Description of the Proceeding
On May 13, 2025, Renergy submitted request for regulatory appeal 1957841 of the AER’s May 6, 2025, decision to issue an Abandonment and Reclamation Order to Renergy under sections 22 and 27 of the Oil and Gas Conservation Act (OGCA), section 23 of the Pipeline Act, and sections 140 and 241 of the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA). The AER granted the request for the regulatory appeal on June 25, 2025.
The purpose of the hearing is to determine whether the AER should confirm, vary, suspend, or revoke its decision to issue the Abandonment and Reclamation Order.
