Audits and Inspections

In 2024, several audits and inspections were conducted to help improve industry compliance with the methane requirements. Below are some highlights of each of these initiatives.

Audits

Audits are desktop exercises that mainly review information submitted by industry through various reporting programs or direct exchanges that result from interaction with duty holders. The following table provides audit statistics for 2021 to 2024.

Inspections

We conducted 1113 methane inspections in 2024 (see table below). This is an 9% decrease from 1231 audits in 2023. All issues leading to an unsatisfactory inspection (i.e., one where a notice of noncompliance was issued) were resolved.
