Today, we released a new edition of Directive 059: Well Drilling and Completion Data Filing Requirements and Manual 027: Well Drilling and Completion Data Submission System Guidance. The revisions permit the reporting of AER-approved alternative material listed in appendix 2 of Directive 020: Well Abandonment when used for capping a permanent bridge plug or permanent packer with a permanent plug during routine non-level-A zonal abandonments.
We revised Directive 059 as follows:
- Improved sections 2.3 and 3 to enhance regulatory clarity and now specify that servicing data must also be submitted within 30 calendar days from the conclusion of the operation.
- Added reporting requirements for plug back in section 3.11, completion in section 3.13, abandonment or plug back in section 7.1 for the use of AER-approved alternative materials (see Directive 020).
- Amended the definition of plug back and reabondonment in appendix 1 to include AER-approved alternative material.
- Defined the point that must be reported when a new drill leg sidetracks from an existing drill leg in section 3.10.
- Added centralizer count and spacing to the list of casing and liner data requirements in section 7.2.
We revised Manual 027 as follows:
- Added a new operation type code (58) for AER-approved alternative materials.
- Clarified the definitions and reporting of cement squeeze and remedial casing cementing in table 4 and appendix 1.
The revised edition of the directive is available on the Directive 059 landing page and Manual 027 on the Manuals landing page.
