Given recent environmental conditions and the historical states of emergency declared in parts of Alberta due to snow melt and overland flooding events, we remind licensees of their responsibility to take appropriate precautions to ensure public safety and environmental protection by minimizing the potential impacts of an oil-and-gas related incident as a result of these hazards.
All licensees must be aware of the potential for site and equipment damage from flooding and physically inspect and assess any sites and equipment that have been or may be affected.
Licensees should have procedures in place to monitor for snow melt and flood advisories and be prepared to take the necessary steps to protect their oil and gas infrastructure.
Up-to-date advisories on streamflow and water emergency conditions can be obtained from the Alberta River Basins website (https://rivers.alberta.ca) or through the Alberta Rivers app (https://open.alberta.ca/interact/alberta-rivers-data-and-advisories).
Emergency updates for the province can be obtained from the Alberta Emergency Alert website (http://www.emergencyalert.alberta.ca) or through the Alberta Emergency Alert app (https://open.alberta.ca/interact/alberta-emergency-alert).
