The AER seeks ways to make the regulatory system more agile

Alberta - October 05, 2018

Since being created in 2013, the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) has focussed on doing things better: better processes that make our system stronger; better requirements that keep pace with innovation and technology; and a better regulatory system that is strong enough to protect what matters and flexible enough to allow industry to do its work.

More than five years on, we have made things better, to the tune of more than $2 billion in savings to industry and a cleaner system, but we know we aren’t done. In fact, if we’re doing it right, we will never be done.

“For Alberta to be competitive,” says AER president and CEO Jim Ellis, “we need to enable further development by removing unnecessary costs in our regulatory system, while still maintaining high standards for environmental protection and public safety.”

Read Ellis’s public statement about the regulator’s work in making Alberta’s regulatory system  more efficient.
