The AER is supporting the Government of Alberta’s goal of achieving a 45 per cent reduction in methane emissions by 2025 (relative to 2014 levels).
The oil and gas industry has an important role to play in this effort given it was the largest source of methane emissions in Alberta in 2014, accounting for about 70 per cent of the province’s total emissions. The below graph shows the progress industry is making towards meeting this reduction target.
