Public Sector Compensation Transparency Act

Under the Government of Alberta’s Public Sector Compensation Transparency Act (PSCTA), public sector bodies are generally required to publicly disclose the names, positions, earnings, non-monetary benefits, and severance of all current and former employees whose total annual earnings exceed the legislated threshold.

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) has been granted an exemption from this requirement. Compensation information for AER employees and board members whose earnings meeting the threshold will not be included in the public disclosure list.

Previous disclosures (up to 2024) remain publicly available on the AER website and the Government of Alberta’s Open Government Portal, as required by legislation.

For questions about this exemption or the legislation, please refer to the Public Sector Compensation Transparency Act.

The following table shows our disclosures since June 2018. The compensation amounts are NOT base salary; the compensation column takes into account many other factors (e.g., overtime, annual hours worked, vacation cash out, and other taxable amounts). Board members and their compensation are also listed.

The AER is 100 per cent funded by industry and is authorized to collect funds through an administrative fee levied on energy development projects and activities. This model is used by other regulatory agencies in North America, such as the Alberta Utilities Commission and the British Columbia Oil and Gas Commission.
